Read & Review Saturdays: THE GARNET DAGGER by Andrea R. Cooper

Happy Saturday!
I started my morning by finishing up a birthday cake for a friend - I'd say it went well. :) Now, on to writing. And in the next few hours, I'll be on a bus to Flushing to pick up my bass so that I can practice my butt off in time for rehearsal tomorrow. Rock N' Roll.. ;)

Publishing with Crimson Romance is the best thing I could have done this year, and it's because I keep meeting so many amazing ladies who write stories from the deepest part of their imaginations...and they seriously rock at it! This past week I had Andrea R. Cooper visit my blog to share her new book The Garnet Dagger and why she enjoys writing Paranormal Romance so much; to cap off the week, I was hoping to insert my review into this blog. If you didn't catch it on Goodreads or Amazon, you should give this book a shot.

The book's "voice" is extremely interesting; the story itself reads as if straight out of the mind of Brock, the lead character. Andrea sets the scene perfectly, describing Brock's journey with a kind of clarity that places the reader right along side him. It's well-written and almost poetic; Miss Cooper did a great job of walking the line between 'Romance' and 'Fantasy Fiction' without losing my interest as a reader. It's definitely worth checking out!

Andrea R. Cooper is one of many Crimson Romance authors whom are all talented, imaginative, and incredibly supportive. If you enjoy reading (and I believe Crimson Romance may just be setting the standard when it comes to distributing a 'new kind of romance'!), visit my publisher's website: www.crimsonromance.com

Take a look around, log in to the community and read to your heart's content - you won't be sorry! And now, onward. I have to try and finish a chapter today, and prepare for the other half of yet another busy weekend. Have a great one!

"The Juggling Act" or "Sometimes, I think my head will explode"

One of the first bits of advice I received when 'Kirby' was chosen for publishing was to 'blog often'. And though I blog far more than I used to, I'm still a sporadic poster (which kind of sounds like a cool superhero name, but I digress...)! I'll apologize for this constantly, and continue to post more frequently. Tonight would be one of the nights that I ask myself, "Self, what the hell are you doing?"

I talk to myself a lot. It helps me work things out, whether it's a plot line, song lyrics, or a recipe. Every time I tell myself that enough is enough, one or all of my projects pull me back in. I end up missing what I do so much that it hurts, and I'm left feeling empty and sometimes even disappointed for not being able to keep up. As a result, I go write back to nurturing the things that make me happiest. And I end up losing sleep writing down lyrics that have been floating in my head or scratching out a scenario that's been on replay since the night before. The next thing I know, I'm pulling a ten hour shift on three hours of sleep. I'm sure I'm overreacting. But every now and then (as the title of this post says), I feel like my head's going to explode.

The good news is, about 99% of the time, I am absolutely in love with the fact that I am doing what makes me happy. Granted, the dream hasn't exactly 'paid off', but I don't care. If you're in this for the money, then you're not truly in it. And whether 'this' is music, writing, or even baking (though the occasional cake order can pay a pretty penny nowadays!), your heart must always remain 'in it'. Hmm. I knew I was going somewhere with this. (smile)

I've just looked at the clock - if I'm to get up at 5AM again, I've got to cut this out. So I will. Keep at it (whatever that may be), and have a great night!

Please welcome my 1st guest... Andrea R. Cooper!

Hooray for new things!

Tonight I am proud to host my first guest - fellow Crimsonista Andrea R. Cooper, author of The Garnet Dagger. Andrea's riding high this week; her book went live this past Monday! So make sure you show her some love and pick up a copy of her book; all that Paranormal Romance at Crimson prices? You can't beat that with a bat! Below you'll learn more about Andrea and her book, The Garnet Dagger - enjoy!

Author Bio:
Andrea R. Cooper grew-up creating characters and never stopped. She lives in Houston and when not writing stories, she likes to dance when no one is watching. Follow her on Twitter @AndreaRCooper and visit her website.

I really only had one question for Andrea: What attracted you to paranormal romance? Here's what she had to say:

Paranormal romance (PNR), to me, embraces everything I love about a story. It ranges from historical to urban, fantasy to legends. There are a few rules in this genre, but there is more flexibility than in other romance genres. Generally in PNR there is a supernatural or mythical being. This could be an Angel, Vampire, Ghost, Zombie, Werewolf (or any other shapeshifter), etc. In other words, a nonhuman. Primarily the romance is between this otherworldly creature and a human. However there are PNRs were both the hero and heroine are paranormal or that one becomes paranormal by the end of the book.

The PNR world may be our own or could be a twin world. When world-crafting building on a non-earth stage, it’s good to pepper the world with differences from our own. Too much though and it’s hard to swallow. There has to be some similarities between our world and the PNR otherwise the reader is easily lost. Differences can be cultural, climates, customs, down to names of food, plants, etc.

Another aspect I enjoy in PNR is strong hero and heroine. Neither one is wimpy, but can stand on their own-or at least when put to the test. Together, though, their talents complement each other. Whichever character is paranormal, there is a wide range of traits to choose from or even embellish on existing ones. For example, Christine Feehan writes about vampires. In her stories, the vampires are villains who did not find their lifemate before the change to evil. PNR can also blend different characterizations. In both the Twilight and House of Night series some of the vampires have magical abilities. In my own debut PNR Brock is an Elvin bitten by a vampire. How would Brock, not being human, transform? What would this dark gift shroud this mysterious being in?

The similarities between PNR and other romances is there must be a love story/romance. There also must be a Happily Ever After (HEA) or at least a Happily For now ending.

Imagine the potential of paranormal romance. A character could be anything. Have abilities and weaknesses that a human would not. Plot twists to evolve. What happens if a werewolf wants to date a human, but turns into a wolf for the first time when the moon is full? Does he/she retain some of their humanity? Does the animal completely take over? Does the werewolf protect the love interest or attack them until their victim knocks them out? Do they hide who they are from the love interest or tell at the first meeting and together the couple strives to make the relationship work?

That’s why I love to write and read PNR…all of the possibilities.

The Garnet Dagger is available through the following links:  Crimson Romance ebooks | Amazon | B&N | iTunes (Heads Up! Nook Users have to wait juuust a bit more for B&N availability!)

Brock is an Elvin cursed from a vampyre bite that forces him to feed on the life-essence of others. He is unable to touch another without taking their life. Chained by prophesy, he must find a witch, pierce her heart, and draw her blood for his cure.

Celeste must escape the monks who have held her prisoner for years. Her magic has been kept dormant by her captors. An ancient powerful Warloc craves her powers. If he succeeds in devouring her magic, she and the world will die.
When Brock falls in love with Celeste before realizing her demise is his cure, will love triumph over his desire to be healed? Will he risk everything to save her from a Warloc, an oath breaker, who also wants her dead?
Excerpt:
I’ve known death. For over half a millennia, I escorted many to death at the end of my sword. In the eyes of the dying, I watched it shroud them. Foolishly, I thought many more eras would pass before death came for me. It came so swiftly that I could not run; I could not escape. At a village, dressed in human clothes, I took in everything. By observing for eons, I understood and spoke their language. The world of mankind fascinated me. Their hobbled homes burrowed into the ground. Rocks crunched on top one another with thatched roofs woven from straw. Never had I seen a home or inn that was higher than three levels, as if they were afraid of the sky. I delayed my return to my people as I watched human jugglers bounce torches and knifes. It was autumn equinox and the festivities would continue well into the night. Children laughed as they chased each other. A trail of leaves from their costumes twirled after them. It was dark when I reached the forest. Since I was already late, I hiked uphill to a shortcut rather than take the long path back home. I didn’t need to alert any of my kind near the barrier at this hour.

Release Day: Kirby

Dear Kirby,

Happy Release Day!

Love, Me.

(Nook Users: I've found out that B&N generally operates on a slower schedule than the other digital book sights. Sit tight and I'll keep my eyes open to let you know as soon as Kirby becomes available for your device. Meanwhile, enjoy the cover art, fun photo & blurb below!)

Thanks to Crimson Romance for the cute cover!
Rachel Sirianni is a twenty-seven year old native New Yorker with dreams of becoming an editor for Equinox Publishing, one of the top imprints in the city. And it seems she's finally gotten her foot in the door, until one wild morning turns her fast track into an uphill climb.

Unable to pay her bills, she takes an unlikely second job to make ends meet and finds herself struggling to maintain two lives - her own, and that of her alter ego. Kirby is a sassy, imaginative, and extroverted fireball whom Rachel had no idea was lying dormant inside of her.

Enter Joe, a larger-than-life, brutally hot writer with a heart of gold. Rachel can't seem to control herself around him, despite the fact that she's sworn off men until she can get her career back on track. Their backgrounds and interests very nearly run parallel, and the Universe seems to keep pulling the pair together - in every aspect of Rachel's life.

What happens when two worlds collide, particularly where it concerns Joe? The ride of her life may just lead to love - or it could lead back to the drawing board.

Fun Fact (?): I may or may not have spent hours staring at pictures of a certain uber-hot stripper/werewolf while writing this book. I'm not saying I did, but I'm not saying I didn't.

Kirby's Big Day! Book Tour Info & Other Fun Stuff!

Well...

Here we are, twenty-four hours away from Kirby's launch! Still stoked!

I've been ridiculously busy, reading a couple of different books to ultimately review them on here and on every other platform I can. I'm also polishing off the final submissions for my blog tour (a completely new thing to me!) and practicing for an upcoming show. All That + New Job = Lots going on!

For today I'm just going to post the details of my brief blog tour (March 25th-April 5th) to promote and celebrate my first book under the Crimson Romance imprint - I can't even explain how proud and happy I am about this. Here are the dates, be sure to check all of these blogs out and show them love!

These are preliminary dates and the list is, of course, subject to change. I'm looking to add a couple of dates between now and the 3rd; if any come up, you'll be the first to know! If not, no worries - I'll be starting another brief run through the blog circuit again on the 15th of April, starting with a visit to another of my fellow Crimsonistas, MJ Schiller!

As for Kirby, she will be available for your reading pleasure in less than 24 hours! The book will available digitally on plenty of e-book stores: AmazonBarnes & Noble, and Google Books, for starters. Bad Juggler!

It's Sunday.. it's been four days since my last post, even though I told myself I wouldn't let that much time go by. To be fair, I've got two other projects going on... Bad Juggler!

Anyway, the week has flown by once again. I've got a great story in the works, and it's definitely another romance. I couldn't say for sure what's pulled me in to this genre, but it's definitely a fun genre to write. We live in a world where love isn't forever and, in a lot of case, is never unconditional. People, in general, are getting more cynical and treating other people horribly simple because they've found a way to dance the line between 'moral' and 'legal'. The world is exhausting when you stand back and look at it; I've caught myself staring in horror more often than not lately. Why not read or write a story where love can still conquer all, where a guy wouldn't even think of cheating on you, and where the right guy is readily available and easily found for the purpose of making your heart flutter and your toes curl? Romance is essential. It's Oxygen. It may only exist in tiny increments in remote areas of the world, but it's there - isn't it?

I'm beyond excited for the release of Kirby - it's about two weeks away! It's definitely got me motivated to get another book out there, and I'm beginning to write another that I wouldn't mind seeing attached to the Crimson Romance imprint! In the meantime, Kirby will be available soon, and it's already got a great review on Goodreads! You can check it out at this link (http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/17364119-kirby), or just read it here:

"This is one of the best contemporary romances I’ve ever read. I was hooked from page one—the storyline revolving around the heroine, Rachel, seeking a job in the publishing industry one I found extremely interesting—but then Ms. Anne threw in her twist: Rachel’s alter-ego, Kirby, the sex-line operator.

Ms. Anne’s voice was cute and quirky without being vapid, which can be an unfortunate by-product of contemporary romance. Rachel’s interactions with the other characters showed off her personality in the best light, leaving the reader with the feeling that Rachel was a friend. And don’t even get me started on Joe, the hunky 6’5” dreamcicle from Michigan with his aw-shucks manners and kissing prowess.

This book is surprisingly sweet in the heat level for having a heroine who is a sex-line operator. I can’t help but wish I got to see how amazing Joe is in the bedroom, but in the end, I guess it makes sense that only Rachel is privy to that information. Joe’s just old-fashioned like that." - Micah Persell, www.goodreads.com

...I'd just like to say, for the record, that I was absolutely tickled by the brief description of Joe in this review. "The hunky 6'5" dreamcicle from Michigan with his aw-shucks manners and kissing prowess" - yes, honey - love it!

On that note, I'm going to head out so that I can get my word count up today - may all your dreams be filled with hunky dreamcicles! ;)

:gasp: ...Hump Day, Already??

Hi all!

Boy, this week has *flown* by! I've got so much on my plate these days, it's hard to keep up. Then again, I really wouldn't have it any other way. I've been extremely blessed in the last year and a half. I made up my mind to make life count and...so far, so good! I did my final set of corrections and sent Kirby's epub file back to my editor at Crimson - this is it! The pre-sale will be up on Amazon soon, followed by the official release on March 25th! Beyond that, I've got a new book floating around in my head that I'll be putting on paper soon. My band (Running Thoughts) has a show in April -our first since my sister/guitarist broke her knee last December - and I'm starting a new job that shows a lot of promise. I gotta say, I'm exhausted but insanely happy!

I'm currently booking a blog tour (or attempting to; who knew this was such a tedious task?) so if you're a writer or blogger looking for someone to guest on your space, please feel free to send me a message. I'd love to trade spots and even promote your site on the links page of my site! People are also asking me if I'm "throwing a release party". Now, while I'm all for a reason to get together, I have to ask - is this common in such a digital age? What do the tech savvy do nowadays? Do I have friends and supporters over, or do I have a Google hangout where people get to ask questions and generally talk about the book release (among other things)? Fellow writers, if you're reading... what have you done in the past or what do you plan to do when your book goes live?

In the meantime, I need to get a bit of sleep tonight - as it turns out, writing a chapter, practicing a Blink 182 cover, and promoting the book on less than five hours of sleep isn't a really good idea. (smile) But I'll be back, and I'm thinking I'll post a little more promotional material for 'Kirby'. Have a great night!

Read N' Review Saturdays - ALL OVER THE PLACE by Serena Clarke

Happy Saturday!

We can't be truly great writers unless we are willing to read others' work. It helps build our 'chops', and aids in developing a style of our own. By reading books by other writers, whether newbies like me or more experienced authors, we learn what we like, what we don't like, and more about what kind of story teller we wish to be. That said, I'm also an escapist; so anytime I can sit back and read a fun story that'll take me away for a little bit, I'm just all about it. I actually read this one in time for what should have been last Saturday's "Read N' Review" but, obviously, I got started late (cue the sheepish grin).

Being that I'm publishing with Crimson Romance, I decided to start reading romance novels by my fellow Crimson Authors. For starters, I went with "All Over The Place", a wonderful Contemporary Romance written by Serena Clarke - it did not disappoint! And if this is Serena's debut novel, then it is truly a promising sign of things to come!

The fun begins with a handsome American stranger and his leather bag, and we follow the heroine as she travels far and wide to find said hottie; along the way she learns more about herself, her friends, and even her wayward but adorable Mom. Livi Calloway is a lovable character to say the least, offering us an outside view of what we've all experienced at one time or another - love found, love lost, and the butterflies that flap furiously in our tummies at the thought of a new crush.

The title of the book raises one's expectations, and the content within does not let us down: smart and sassy author Serena Clarke treats us to the best of Europe: romantic Paris, Trafalgar Square and yes, even Pooh Corner. You will definitely hang on to her every word from beginning to end, wanting to know what happens to Miss Calloway as she edges her way toward love and self-actualization.

This book is a fun, wonderful little getaway, and I recommend it to all readers looking for happy sighs, giggles, and tingly thoughts of friendship and camaraderie. Please, fellow readers/writers, check out the lovely Serena Clarke on the web at www.serenaclarke.com, and be sure to pick up an e-copy of 'All Over The Place'! Until next time, lovelies - enjoy your weekend!
